Sometimes the best place to start your freelance career is where your staff employment had ended. Many people find they can become independent contractors in the field in which they previously worked. You can use your previous work experience as a launching pad for your freelance career. Some ways to use your experience include: finding a company that hires people in your field to work from home; or using your previous experience to become an “expert” freelancer in your field; or starting a business related to your previous field.

Trouble developing a contract for the type of work I will be providing.

Hi all,

I am going to start providing freelance marketing, social media, and design work for a fairly large and popular restaurant in Portland, Oregon.

The type of work I am doing includes:

* Managing their social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat mainly). This includes posting original content that I design myself, posting relatable articles, interacting with customers, and running online campaigns.
* Designing and running their email newsletter through MailChimp
* Developing some traditional marketing material such as business cards, posters, etc.
* Taking photos and videos at various events to share online and keep for future marketing use.
* Developing traditional and digital marketing campaigns which can involve using platforms such as MailChimp, WordPress, Wix, Unbounce for landing pages, etc.

I am having trouble coming up with a solid contract that includes all the services mentioned above. I don’t have much experience yet doing this for other companies so I’m not too informed on how much I should be charging for all that. Any advice or templates I could follow?

TL;DR: Providing a wide range of design and marketing services for a restaurant, need help to develop a contract for everything.

Edit: This is going to be an ongoing job/position with them.

Animated Batman Video – Freelance Animation Job

Animated Batman Video – Freelance Animation Job

I need you to create a video of Batman and Robyn. The video will be about Batman having small calf muscles, while Robyn has naturally big calf muscles. The video will include batman doing various calf exercises, with some being silly like Batman doing a standing calf raise with an elephant on his shoulders. Are you able to draw something like that and have the exercises look fluent?

I don’t need voice over so it’s fine if you can’t, but im interested in knowing if you are able to do a Batman type of voice. If we dont do voiceover, could you insert sounds that emphasize the scenes or would you only be able to add music? Also without the voiceover, we would do bubble text to show what the characters say. The video needs to be 2 minutes long, I will provide the script. Is it cheaper without the voiceover?

Needed: Colorist For DC Heroes Compilation Poster-Size Drawing

I’m looking for a colorist to digitally color a poster of 20+ DC characters. Background will be blank- I’m filling that in myself. I’m looking for someone with the same caliber of skills as the colorists I’ve previously hired (See my portfolio for examples). Pay can be negotiated as flat rate, or a percentage of sales of my work in exhibitions, or a bit of both.

Customer sob story, do I give a break?

Customer sob story, do I give a break?

Customer sob story, do I give a break?

I have a repeat customer who’s been a good customer the couple times we’ve worked together in the past. I just finished up a new project for him (product development stuff) and sent the invoice in an email with the files and a summary. I’ve been working on it for 4 months and the last payment was two months ago. (In retrospect I should have been billing bi-weekly or at least monthly, but hindsight is 20/20. Adding lots to the policy manual after this, that’s for sure.)

He has expressed shock at the cost of the invoices before but they’ve always been about half as much as this one as the projects were shorter, easier, and took less time. He’s really upset about this one as it’s more than he ever expected. I have even grandfathered him in (on this project) at the old hourly rate he got before because he’s been good and I forgot to tell him ahead of time.

Now he’s giving me a sob story and telling me how it’s wiping out his finances and really hurting his business. His wife just quit her job and they’re really hurting, etc. So to be clear, this is an individual trying to start a business and not a big business.

He thinks I should have updated him more on the billing but I wrongly assumed he had some idea how much part time for two months costs based on our other transactions and the known hourly rate. He maintains he would have pulled the plug on the project midway through if he knew it was this much. This project was more in depth and he knew I was having a lot of difficulty with it. We were in constant communication throughout, so it’s not like I’m showing up out of nowhere.

There is a small chance that if I gave him a discount he might be back later but given the situation, I think that chance is small either way. He’s a really nice guy and I really do feel for his situation, but I’m not exactly sitting on piles of money either.

Do I stick to my guns or am I too much of a softie? I think I know the answer. But to be honest, I’m insecure about this and need reinforcement.

tldr; Repeat customer was surprised about cost of the invoice and is asking for a break of some sort.
