VisionMongers: Making a Life and a Living in Photography

Price: $49.99 - $24.42

For those who want to make the transition into the world of vocational photography—staying true to your craft and vision, while fusing that craft with commerce VisionMongers is a great place to begin your journey. With a voice equally realistic and encouraging, photographer David duChemin discusses the experiences he’s had, the lessons he’s learned, and the practices he’s adopted in his own winding journey to becoming a successful working photographer.

When it comes to this personal, honest combination of craft and commerce, there is no single path to success. Everyone’s goals are different, as is everyone’s definition of success. As such, VisionMongers does not prescribe a one size-fits-all program. Instead, duChemin candidly shares ideas, wisdom, and inspiration to introduce you to, and help you navigate, the many aspects of transforming your passion into your vocation. He addresses everything from the anxiety-riddled question “Am I good enough?” to the basics—and beyond—of marketing, business, and finance, as well as the core assumption that your product is great and your craft is always improving.

Along the way, duChemin features the stories of nine other photographers—including Chase Jarvis, Gavin Gough, and Zack Arias—whose paths, while unique, have all shared a commitment and passion for bringing their own vision to market. With VisionMongers, you’ll learn what paths have been taken—what has worked for these photographers—and you’ll be equipped to begin the process of forging your own.

Freelance Photographer job – Candid Campus Photography – Gretna, LA

Freelance Photographer job – Candid Campus Photography – Gretna, LA

We are a regional photography company based out of New Orleans. We primarily do school photography, and are currently looking for more freelance photographers for shoots this fall. This is a great opportunity to earn some extra money, learn more about event photography, and network with other photographers in the area.

Most of our business is with colleges and universities in the area. Our busiest times are the December and May graduation seasons, but we have many other shoots throughout the year. During the fall semester, we’ll be shooting senior portraits at various on-campus senior fairs in the area. We’ll also need a few good people for the December graduations we shoot at the end of the semester.

Working for us on a freelance basis means that some times in the year are busier than others. That said, if you do prove yourself as a valuable photographer, more jobs will come your way.

Graduations are paid by the shoot (about $100 for 3-4 hours of work), and senior fairs are paid hourly (rates range from $10-20 per hour based on experience).

Ideally, I’d like to find 2-3 people who are looking for long-term part-time work. People who would want to work a few senior fairs this fall as well as next year, and are also open to working graduations in December and May. Senior fairs are usually on weekdays and span the whole day, so someone with a 9-5 Monday-Friday job wouldn’t be ideal. Anyone who works a variety of freelance jobs with a fair amount of flexibility would be the best fit.

I’m looking for people who would be available for both types of events, so if you are interested and available for both weekdays and weekends, please title your application e-mail “Senior Fair AND Graduation Photographer”.

We are looking for people who are detail oriented, good communicators, and have experience or a basic knowledge of photography. Extensive experience is not required, but you should at least have used an SLR camera in the past.

Applicants MUST be team players! Willingness to jump in and seek out ways to help the team and serve the customer is key! We look for people who can “float” to where they’re needed at a shoot, not someone who won’t jump in because it “isn’t in their job description.” So if you’re a proactive hard worker with an interest in working in photography, please reply to this ad.
